I came across some articles written in the Pahrump Valley Times on the goings on in volleyball.
Here’s an older one, but it’s still interesting.
Also look for my 3A volleyball preview on NevadaPrep, which I’ll send to Herb this weekend. I won’t insert a link to it, because links on NevadaPrep change a lot.
Anyway….
On September 4th we watched and watched and watched Alamo and Meadows slug it out. It was a school night and way past my bedtime, but we had fun nonetheless.
I think the spike is one of the top ten coolest plays in all of sports. There’s just something about slamming that ball down the other team’s throat that makes one want to scream at the ceiling.
Whenever I play v-ball, I always want to try and dunk the thing though. I grab it with my right hand and chuck it at the ground. It’s a lot of fun. I’m told that is illegal, however. The traditionalists get upset with me.
Jadey Jones of Alamo knows the art of the spike. If I was in the back row waiting for a Jones spike, I might cry out of fear.
She’s one in a long list of Alamo girls who can kill a volleyball. I went to school with some of them. I played volleyball against some of them. And I was scared.
The Meadows played a tough match. Their 30-28 win in the third game was a thing of beauty. It was an intense back and forth battle.
But it appeared that Alamo took it to another level in the last two games and Meadows didn’t have enough in the tank to do the same.
Taking Calls
That Friday, we stayed home and I took some calls and wrote some game recaps. But I didn’t take as many calls as I could have.
I quote Herb:
We can only report what we receive. And I gladly take coach-reported results within two days of the event and post them on the results pages. And if anyone (parent, athlete, other papers, etc.) wants to send in results within two days I’ll post those as well.
I’d love to have all the football, soccer and volleyball scores from all of the schools we attempt to cover, but what you see on the results pages is everything that gets reported to me, either by phone, fax or email.
This weekend, make the call. Herb is standing by.
