Well, the blog shattered the record for visits last night, so I’m guessing a few people enjoyed the live updates.
Sorry about the poor picture quality. I wouldn’t send pictures with the updates if I didn’t have to, but the service is done through Flickr, and it won’t work without a picture.
Robin did most of the work on the live updates. She also took that picture you see above. AND she tracked down coach Hafen and the game statistics for me. She’s a sweet gal. I’m a lucky guy.
On to the game…
NevadaPrep has the recap.
MesquiteLocal does an excellent job covering the local teams, so check out their coverage as well.
As the title suggests, the game transitioned through three distinct phases.
The first half was a game of little offense and solid defense.
The third quarter was a lot of Virgin Valley offense and strong defense and little offense or defense from Faith Lutheran.
The end of the third and beginning of the fourth was a festivity of scoring. Five TDs were scored in just over five minutes.
Then we came full circle – back to the little O and solid D for the rest of the contest.
A little wacky, but very entertaining.
On the fans…
Excellent, rowdy group. We sat right in the middle of the green shirts.
The stands were packed. Faith Lutheran had a nice turnout as well. Way to make the trip and support the kids.
On the teams…
Faith has some incredible athletes. Conner Maloney, Garrett Sherwood, and Diontea’ Wright are extremely difficult to stop if they get in the open field. They are tall (6′5″, 6′3″, and 6′6″ respectively), and extremely fast.
Problem is they each only got in the open field once.
Sherwood and Maloney’s TD receptions were both short passes. All it took was one missed tackle by the Bulldogs and they were gone.
The Crusaders were missing their starting QB, and their fill-in, David Sperry, was playing through pain himself.
Once Done comes back and they find a groove offensively, they will be a dangerous team.
The Bulldogs don’t have many weaknesses. They are balanced offensively, with a veteran offensive line, solid backs, good receivers, and a savvy QB.
They’re good defensively as well. They shut down the Crusader running game and other than those three big plays, didn’t allow much in the air either.
