Calvary Chapel at Pahranagat Valley

We’re making the hour-and-a-half drive to the Pahranagat Valley, where the two undefeated football teams in the Southern 1A conference will joust.

(No they’re not going to mount horses and go after each other with blunted lances, although that would be cool.  I’m just testing new words.  Have any suggestions, let me know.)

The Panthers recorded an important 42-22 win against a solid Mountain View team.  The game wasn’t easy for Alamo compared with past meetings the team has had with the Saints. But Ken Higbee’s group still did more than enough to continue their long, conference win streak.

Meanwhile, The Lions had a difficult trip to Faith Baptist.  I spoke briefly with Lion head coach Bobby Johnson who said their struggles weren’t just limited to the field.

During the 300-mile drive to the school in Canoga Park, California, Calvary’s bus broke down.  Luckily, it was repaired in time to make the game, but the team only had 20-minutes to get ready to play one of the best eight-man squads in California.  In addition, two key Calvary players were out because of inelligibility.

Johnson said the team moved the ball well, but committed six tournovers in the 48-6 loss.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Lions bounce back and how they do against the measuring stick of Nevada 1A football.  Both teams are 1-0 in league and 5-1 overall.

We’ll have the cell phone in hand, beaming live updates at the end of each quarter.
