Coming Soon

I have some video from the Moapa – Virgin Valley game and volleyball state, which I’ll post next week.

Basketball practice has already begun throughout the state.  No breaks.  Such is the world of high school sports.

RIVALRY

For the second year in a row, it’s Moapa Valley v. Virgin Valley for the state championship game.  And for the second year in a row I’m guessing both towns will be emptied to pack the stadium at Clark High School.

Sounds like a great way to end a fine football season.  For anyone not attending the game, we will send updates.  If this new site called Utterz is working properly, I’ll send you detailed voice updates.  Our camera man, Larin Lamoreaux, was nice enough to clear his schedule to get some video footage.   And a full recap will be coming to NevadaPrep soon after the game.

Feel free to rant about who you think will win this game, or the other two title games being played tomorrow, by clicking on the comment link below.  NevadaPrep has some excellent articles up, so check those out too.

You high school sports fans are real spoiled.

Better late than never. Here is some audio footage of the Moapa – Virgin Valley game played on October 25th.

I’m working on some video footage of the Lincoln – Meadows game, so look for that soon. I’m also helping Herb with previews of this weekend’s playoff games, so check NevadaPrep for those.

First Round: Lincoln County at The Meadows

Two teams with storied pasts meet on Friday to write another chapter of playoff drama as The Meadows Mustangs host the Lincoln County Lynx.

It is a scene that both head coaches know well.

Meadows head coach Frank DeSantis coached his team to five consecutive state titles before stepping down in 2001.  Since then the Mustangs have struggled.  The team posted a 1-3 record last season and were quickly dismissed by Needles in the first round.  With DeSantis back, the Mustangs have quickly turned things around, going 3-1 in league play and securing the second playoff seed and home field advantage for the first round.

Lynx head coach Rich Ottley, in his ninth season, has appeared in five state title games and won two (2003 and 2005).  Last year the Lynx struggled early and had trouble settling on a starting quarterback before finally giving the job to 5-foot-3 Larry Shinkle.  They then surprised everybody by winning two road playoff games before finally falling to Rite of Passage in the state finals.

This year Lincoln got off to a strong start, winning five of their first six contests, but then dropped their last two to the two Mustangs – the first at Meadows, 28-20, and the second at home against Needles, 42-13.  So the 2-2 Lynx again find themselves on the road to start the playoffs.

The history of both coaches and their respective teams, as well as their tight regular season meeting is leaving most guessing how Friday night will play out.  But one thing’s for sure.

This game should be good.

We’ll be there to witness it.  Live updates and pictures will be sent.  Audio and video footage will be posted.

We had some pretty good trash talk last week leading up to the Moapa-Virgin game.  I’ll again leave it to you to discuss. Who do you think will win this game and why?
